Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians
Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians, Religious monument in Barrio de las Letras, Spain
The Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians stands as a two-story structure with a Latin cross floor plan and a single nave in Madrid's literary quarter.
Construction of the current baroque church, designed by architect Marcos López, began in 1668 and the convent section followed in 1718.
The convent holds the remains of Miguel de Cervantes, discovered in 2015 through archaeological excavations that identified bones among 17 individuals.
The religious site welcomes visitors at Calle de Lope de Vega 18, near Antón Martín and Estación del Arte metro stations in central Madrid.
The nuns of this convent received a dedication in Don Quixote, as Cervantes maintained close connections with the religious community through his daughter.
