House-Museum of Lope de Vega, House museum in Madrid, Spain
The House-Museum of Lope de Vega is a former residence of a leading Spanish dramatist located in central Madrid. The interior preserves original furnishings, personal belongings, and documents that reveal what the home of a prolific writer looked like during the 1600s.
The Spanish dramatist purchased the building in 1610 and made it his home until his death in 1635. During those years, he created many of his most performed works within these walls.
The rooms reflect how a prominent writer of the 1600s organized his daily life, with furnishings and objects showing his habits and interests. Visitors can see how creative people of that era used their homes as both living spaces and places of work.
Visits are conducted as guided tours lasting about 35 minutes and must be booked in advance. The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday and offers tours in multiple languages.
The original garden behind the house still exists and displays the plantings and layout typical of a 1600s household garden. This green space served as a personal retreat for the resident and reflects his everyday interests and activities.
