Palacio de Hielo y del Automóvil, Beaux-Arts building in Centro district, Madrid, Spain
The Palacio de Hielo y del Automóvil features an interior design with a Louis XVI style salon and a spacious ice rink measuring 55 by 28 meters.
Belgian hotelier Georges Marquet commissioned this building in 1920, making it one of the first structures in Madrid to utilize reinforced concrete construction methods.
The venue hosted the inaugural Spanish hockey league match on January 18, 1923, between Club Alpino Español and Real Club Puerta de Hierro.
After 1939, the building became the headquarters of the Spanish National Research Council, housing various humanities institutes and research centers.
The structure experienced multiple transformations, from an ice skating rink to an automotive exhibition space, and later a scientific research facility.
