Castle of Sant Martí Sarroca

The castle of Sant Martí Sarroca is a medieval fortress combining Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements set on a hilltop in Catalonia. The building displays several construction phases from different periods and now houses a museum inside.

The fortress emerged around 1000 at a strategic location marking the boundary between Moorish and Christian lands. It underwent significant restoration in the early 20th century, becoming an early example of medieval preservation efforts in Catalonia.

The site draws visitors interested in observing how medieval crafts and regional traditions are demonstrated and displayed. People gather here to explore products and foods from the local area while learning about daily life in past centuries.

The structure underwent restoration during one of Catalonia's earliest preservation campaigns for medieval buildings. Renowned architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch directed this important project in the early 20th century.
