The Cartuja de Montealegre contains three sectors with monks' quarters, a church, and two cloisters arranged around a central courtyard.
Founded in 1415, the monastery merged two Carthusian communities from Sant Pol del Maresme and Vallparadis de Terrassa into a single religious establishment.
The monastery features a 35-meter-long Gothic church with pointed vaults and contains multiple individual cells where monks maintain their solitary lifestyle.
The monastery maintains an active Carthusian community and stands as the last functioning Carthusian monastery in Catalonia.
A medieval defense tower with arrow slits remains integrated into the monastery structure, reflecting the historical need for protection.
