Castillo de Santibáñez el Alto, Medieval castle in Santibáñez el Alto, Spain.

The stone fortress stands on a hill, featuring irregular walls that form concentric enclosures with a barbican protecting the old town buildings.

Originally built in the 9th century, the castle underwent reconstruction by the Knights Templar of the Order of Pereiro during the 11th and 12th centuries.

Kings Alfonso XI, Fernando II of León, and Alfonso IX made documented visits to this strategic fortress near the Portuguese border.

The castle grounds now contain the village cemetery and remain open for visitors to explore the medieval defensive architecture.

The fortress maintains its original Renaissance-style main gate and the Gate of Gata, which have undergone careful restoration work.
