Castillo de Grisel

Castillo de Grisel is a medieval castle in Spain featuring strong exterior walls, battlements, and arrow slits built with dressed stone. A prominent watchtower rises above the structure, displaying the defensive design of its era.

The fortress was acquired in 1352 by the Chapter of Tarazona from Hugo de Cardona to strengthen regional defenses against Castilian threats. This purchase made it a key stronghold along contested borders.

The chapel inside shows vaulted ceilings and blends religious architecture with military design typical of medieval Spain. You can see how worship and defense shared the same space.

The site now operates as accommodation with eight bedrooms and offers swimming pools, fitness facilities, and tennis courts for guests. Allow time to explore both the interior rooms and the surrounding grounds.

Archaeologists uncovered large quantities of ceramics and water cisterns beneath the structure during restoration work. These discoveries reveal how residents stored and managed their water supply.
