The Castillo de Casas Viejas stands on a small rocky hill near the Mediterranean Sea, featuring defensive walls and a central courtyard with multiple chambers.
Built in 1773 during the Spanish Coastal Watchtowers program, this fortress protected the coastline from pirate attacks and served as a strategic military position.
The castle maintains a permanent exhibition of military garments and weaponry from the Napoleonic period, illustrating the defensive heritage of Spanish coastal regions.
Visitors can access the castle Tuesday through Friday from 15:00 to 18:00 and weekends from 10:00 to 18:00, with no entrance fee required.
The fortress provides surveillance capabilities from Punta del Sabinar to Balanegra, maintaining its original architectural elements from the 18th century.
