The Adriano III vessel provided regular transportation services across the Bay of Cádiz, connecting El Puerto de Santa María with the city of Cádiz.
From 1955 until August 2011, the ship operated daily routes until an accident caused it to sink at the Reina Victoria dock after hitting a breakwater.
The vessel received recognition as a Cultural Heritage Site in 2001 and appeared in several Spanish films including La Lola se va a los puertos.
The ship remained underwater for twenty-eight days before being recovered and transferred to Navantia shipyards in San Fernando for restoration attempts.
Captain José Fernández Sanjuán, known as Pepe el del Vapor, commanded the vessel for 68 years, becoming a respected figure in the maritime community.
