Casasola reservoir, stuwmeer in Málaga, Spanje
Casasola Dam is an arch-shaped dam built across the Campanillas River valley in Málaga Province. The structure holds back water across roughly 112 hectares and stores about 24 million cubic meters, providing both flood control and water supply to the region.
The dam was completed in the late 1990s and has since managed water flow and flood prevention for the region. Its construction was part of Málaga's infrastructure development to protect communities from flooding while securing water supply for the growing city.
Visitors should be careful after heavy rain as gravel paths can become slippery or flooded, making access risky. The area is accessible by rough tracks, so sturdy footwear and caution when exploring are advisable.
Griffon vultures can regularly be seen soaring above the cliffs and trees around the dam, nesting in the surrounding slopes of Aleppo pine and holm oak. The dam plays a key role in the regional flood protection system, working with other upstream dams to shield nearly 1 million people from flooding.
