Castillo de San Telmo, Maritime lighthouse in Almería, Spain
Castillo de San Telmo is a lighthouse on a hilltop in Almería with a square white tower marked by a black stripe. The structure stands about 7 meters tall and sits 74 meters above the Mediterranean Sea level.
The fortification was originally built in 1571 as a defensive tower and was destroyed in 1811 by English forces. It was rebuilt in 1830 in its current form as a lighthouse.
The lighthouse earned recognition as a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1993, marking its importance in Spanish maritime navigation history.
Access is via a steep footpath from Aguadulce village that climbs about 70 steps to the site. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for the uphill walk.
