Iglesia de la Limpia Concepción de Nuestra Señora y portada del antiguo convento de los Carmelitas Descalzos, Baroque church and convent portal in Écija, Spain

The Iglesia de la Limpia Concepción de Nuestra Señora is a Baroque church with a single nave covered by a barrel vault decorated with plasterwork and murals depicting angels in the choir tribune. The facade features the ornately crafted portal of the former Discalced Carmelite convent adjoining the church.

The original Discalced Carmelite convent was founded in 1591 through donations from Sancho de Rueda and María de Cárdenas, with the church opening in 1614. This Baroque structure emerged during a period of intense religious building activity in Andalusia.

The interior displays religious artwork connected to the Discalced Carmelite tradition and various saints honored by the order. Visitors can explore the side chapels where these carefully crafted pieces are arranged throughout the space.

The building is located in the historical core of Écija and is easily accessible on foot while exploring the other religious and architectural sites in the area. Visitors should expect varying hours that depend on the church's operating schedule.

A Roman mosaic lies in the transept, surrounded by funeral stones and holy water fonts carved from jasper, bearing witness to earlier settlement on the site. This unusual combination shows how the church was built over remains from previous eras.
