Requejo Bridge, Industrial heritage bridge in Zamora Province, Spain
The Requejo Bridge is an iron structure that crosses the Duero River and connects the towns of Pino del Oro and Villadepera. The structure rises about 90 meters above the water while spanning a distance of about 120 meters.
The structure was inaugurated on September 15, 1914, by Public Works Director Abilio Calderón and replaced a ferry service. That ferry had been controlled by the Marquis of Santa Colomba.
Local workers built the bridge under the supervision of Robustiano Fernández, with steel parts specially manufactured at the Duro Felguera plant. This regional craftsmanship remains visible in how the structure stands today.
The bridge carries the ZA-321 road with a traffic clearance of about 3 meters and enables connection between the Sayago and Aliste regions. It is the main link for vehicles traveling between these two areas in Zamora Province.
When completed in 1914, it was the highest structure over a river in all of Spain. This remarkable engineering feat made it a milestone in construction techniques of that era.
