Paseo del Espolón, Historic promenade and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Burgos, Spain
Paseo del Espolón is a tree-lined promenade along the Arlanzón River with organized gardens, stone monuments, and wide pathways. It stretches between different sections of the city, bringing together heritage architecture and open green space.
The promenade was created in the late 1800s as part of Burgos' urban renewal. It was designed to connect the medieval heart of the city with its expanding modern districts.
The name comes from its origins as a riverside edge. Today it serves as a meeting place where residents and visitors walk through the gardens and enjoy the outdoor space.
The walkways are wide and level, making it easy to stroll or sit on the benches placed throughout. Water fountains and information signs are located along the route for orientation.
Eight bronze statues of Spanish rulers from different eras stand among the century-old plane trees. Visitors often pass by these sculptures without noticing they depict different periods of Spanish monarchy.
