Torozo, Mountain summit in Sierra de Gredos, Spain
Torozo is a summit in the Macizo Oriental section of Sierra de Gredos reaching 2,021 meters with three distinct peaks arranged in a triangular formation. The mountain features hiking trails on the northern face and approximately 80 climbing routes on the southern side, extending up to 250 meters in height.
The mountain sits near Puerto del Pico, an ancient trade route used by Celts and Vettones where Roman road remnants remain visible. This location placed it at a crossroads of significant movement and commerce throughout antiquity.
The mountain was historically important to shepherds who moved flocks between seasonal pastures using established routes through the peaks. Visitors can still see the ancient paths that guided these migrations.
The northern face offers easier hiking access while the southern side is more challenging with climbing routes of varying difficulty levels. Plan your approach based on your experience and fitness level to match the terrain you intend to explore.
The slopes host the Gredos Ibex, a protected species that has adapted to human presence in its natural habitat. These wild goats are regularly spotted on the mountainside and display a remarkable tolerance for hikers passing through.
