Torre Espioca, Medieval defense tower in Picassent, Spain.
Torre Espioca is a rectangular stone tower in Picassent with a base of roughly 5 by 6 meters and a height of about 17 meters. Arrow slits pierce all four sides for defensive purposes.
The tower was built in the 11th century as part of the Almohad defense system of the region. After King James I of Aragon conquered it, he granted it to Roderic Sabata.
The tower reflects building techniques from the Muslim period in the region, using rammed earth and stone found nearby. Walking around it, you notice how local materials shaped the construction methods of that era.
The site is best visited during daytime to see the structure clearly from outside. Wear comfortable shoes when exploring the stone surroundings and areas near the tower.
Excavations during restoration work uncovered an interior pit and fragments of surrounding walls, revealing how the original structure was organized. These discoveries helped piece together the site's past.
