Caserío-Museo Igartubeiti

Caserío-Museo Igartubeiti is a large rural dwelling with thick stone walls, wooden beams, and multiple interior floors divided into living and working areas. The structure includes a cider-making section with an original press and storage spaces that served the farm's agricultural operations.

The building was constructed around 1600 and reflects an era when Basque rural families combined agriculture and livestock raising as their main livelihood. It operated as a working farm for centuries before being converted into a museum to preserve this way of life.

The farmhouse reveals how rural families organized their daily work and living spaces, with objects positioned as they were actually used in the rooms. Walking through shows the practical ways people divided their time between household tasks and farm labor.

Entry requires advance booking of a guided tour through the museum office, as visitors cannot explore independently. Wear comfortable shoes since tours involve walking through multiple floors and older interior spaces.

The house preserves a working wooden cider press that is still actively used for seasonal production and demonstrations during autumn months. This continued operation demonstrates how traditional craft techniques remain functional after four centuries.
