The Church of Saint Mary stands in Església Square with a Baroque facade adorned by smooth columns and a mixtilinear crown at its entrance point.
Construction of the church took place between 1583 and 1628, led by architect Joan de Tours and his sons Joan and Dionís after permission was granted in 1575.
The main altarpiece, constructed from 1706 to 1711 by sculptor Pau Costa, represents one of the most substantial Baroque altarpieces in Catalonia.
The church maintains its religious functions within both the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Barcelona and the Diocese of Girona, serving the parish of Santa Maria Assumpta.
Gothic ribbed vaults rest upon Doric Renaissance capitals throughout the interior, demonstrating an architectural fusion of late Gothic and Renaissance elements.
