Castillo palacio de Marcilla

Castillo palacio de Marcilla is a stone castle with four towers at its corners, showing different phases of construction. The rectangular structure combines stone blocks and brickwork in a characteristic Gothic design.

The structure was built in the 15th century by Mosén Pierres de Peralta and transformed from a military fortress into the seat of the Marquises of Falces. This change shows a time when castles stopped being purely defensive and became family homes.

The chapel inside contains paintings from the 16th century that show how the building changed from a military fort into a noble residence. These artworks tell the story of when the castle stopped being a fortress and became a palace.

The building now serves as the town hall and offers visitors guided tours. It helps to check the schedule in advance since tours are not offered every day.

The castle once held the legendary sword Tizona, which belonged to the warrior El Cid Campeador. The blade was moved to museums much later and is no longer displayed at the site.
