Iglesia de San Félix

Iglesia de San Félix is a church in Girona's Old Quarter built across several centuries with mixed architectural styles. Inside, the nave rises with Gothic vaults while the outer walls show Romanesque and Baroque elements, with a tall bell tower visible from many streets in the city.

This was Girona's original cathedral before being replaced in the 10th century, after which it became a parish church. Construction and renovation work continued from the 12th through the 17th centuries, with each phase adding new architectural layers to the structure.

The church preserves ancient sarcophagi from early Christian times along its side walls. These stone tombs tell the story of how religious communities were buried in this place over centuries.

Visit in the morning or early afternoon when foot traffic is lighter and you can move through the space more easily. Combined tickets with the nearby Cathedral are available, making it convenient to see both buildings during a single visit to the Old Quarter.

The tall bell tower holds five bells and has served for centuries as a landmark that helps people find their way through the narrow Old Quarter streets. Its sound carries across the city and remains part of the daily rhythm for residents.
