Parc Arqueològic Mines de Gavà, Archaeological park and Neolithic mines in Gavà, Spain.

Parc Arqueològic Mines de Gavà is an archaeological park with Neolithic mines that spread across hundreds of hectares. The site reveals underground galleries and chambers where ancient people extracted green mineral from the earth.

The mines originated about 6000 years ago when Neolithic communities began extracting stone from this location. This mining operation was one of the earliest organized extraction efforts in Europe and continued across many generations.

The excavated areas show how Neolithic people valued variscite for jewelry and used it in their community life. You can see traces of their daily work and understand how important this green mineral was to them.

Visitors can explore underground sections with guides and visit exhibits that show the work of ancient miners. The park is easy to access, and it is wise to wear comfortable shoes and check beforehand which areas are open to visitors.

This is the only location in Western Europe where Neolithic people extracted green variscite for jewelry. This distinction makes the place important for understanding early Stone Age trade and cultural exchanges.
