Sant Pere de Graudescales, Romanesque monastery in la Valldora, Spain
Sant Pere de Graudescales is a Romanesque monastery located in the mountainous Valldora region at about 826 meters elevation. The structure displays a Greek cross layout with three semicircular apses.
The monastery was consecrated in 913 by the Bishop of Urgell and functioned until 1837. After its abandonment the building fell into decline and was later protected.
The monastery displays Lombard architectural traditions and holds protected status as a Spanish cultural asset. Visitors can observe its romanesque forms and building methods from outside.
The interior can be viewed through a large window near the entrance door, as the building remains closed throughout the year. Best viewing comes from standing near the entrance window in good daylight.
The monastery sits along a 13 kilometer circular hiking route that passes through rocky terrain with a metal-stepped passage called Escala de Busa. This trail connects the religious site with the surrounding mountain landscape.
