Santa Maria de Mur, Romanesque monastery in Castell de Mur, Spain.
The monastery of Santa Maria de Mur stands at 891 meters elevation, featuring three naves covered with barrel vaults separated by stone pillars.
Founded in 1069 by Count Ramon IV of Pallars Jussa and his wife Valenca, the monastery received consecration from Bishop Guillem of Urgell that same year.
The central apse murals, transferred to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in 1919, represent significant examples of Romanesque painting techniques.
The monastery complex includes protective walls that transformed it into a fortified structure, providing defense capabilities alongside its religious functions.
Pope Urban II authorized the establishment of an Augustinian community at Santa Maria de Mur, with Berenguer Olomart serving as the first prior.
