Santa Maria de Serrateix

The monastery complex includes a Romanesque church with Gothic chapels, a fortified bell tower, and an 18th-century cloister at 730 meters elevation.

Founded around 940 by monks carrying Saint Urbicio relics, the monastery received protection from the Counts of Cerdanya and Besalu in 977.

The church features a central apse with Lombard decorations, while Gothic chapels were added to its sides during the 15th and 16th centuries.

The monastery stands along the BV-4235 road and functions as the parish church of Serrateix, maintaining regular religious services.

The sarcophagus of Count Oliba Cabreta, an important medieval patron of the monastery, remains preserved within the complex.
