Monte Santiago

Monte Santiago is a protected natural monument in the Province of Burgos that spans across beech forests and rocky terrain between two provinces. The site contains multiple walking trails and viewpoints where visitors can explore the varied landscape and observe rock formations.

The area contains archaeological traces of prehistoric human settlement, including a cave adjacent to the Nervión waterfall dating back thousands of years. These findings show how long people have lived in this mountain region.

The Casa del Parque Monte Santiago functions as an educational center where visitors learn about local traditions, wildlife conservation, and environmental protection efforts.

Access is via the BU-556 road from Berberana, with parking areas near trailheads for exploring the reserve. The marked paths are suitable for different fitness levels and periods of the year bring different conditions to the trails.

The Salto del Nervión waterfall plunges over 270 meters in a horseshoe shape, ranking among the highest waterfalls on the Iberian Peninsula. This impressive drop and distinctive form create a remarkable natural spectacle within the reserve.
