The coastal fortifications of Mount Serantes include three military structures spread across different elevations, featuring a watchtower, a pentagonal fort, and a powder magazine.
The military presence on Mount Serantes dates back to the reign of Felipe V during the War of Succession, with most current fortifications built in the 19th century.
The Monday after Easter Sunday, locals gather near the fort to celebrate Cornites, sharing traditional bread filled with chorizo and boiled eggs.
The watchtower underwent restoration in 2019 with an investment of 250,000 euros, while other structures remain in need of preservation efforts.
The pentagonal fort, constructed in 1880 at Nine Crosses, covered 6,800 square meters and contained troop quarters until its abandonment in 1910.
