Santuari de Puig-agut, Religious sanctuary in Manlleu, Spain.

The Santuari de Puig-agut is a sanctuary perched on a hilltop above Manlleu, defined by its Greek cross floor plan with two side chapels extending from the central space. A prismatic dome rises above the structure, its surface punctuated by pointed arch windows and stained glass that filters light into the interior.

This building rose during the latter part of the 1800s and reached completion in 1886 under architect Agustí Font i Carreras, who blended architectural styles from different eras into one structure. The finished work reflected broader interests in reviving historical design approaches that were gaining momentum across the region.

This sanctuary serves as a place of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with dedicated interior spaces for the Virgin of Lourdes and Saint Joseph. Visitors moving through these spaces experience how the building organizes religious prayer around different figures of faith.

This site sits at an elevation of about 594 meters (1,950 feet) and is best reached on foot via hiking trails from Manlleu, with the walk taking roughly one hour and fifteen minutes. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for climbing, as the paths lead uphill throughout most of the journey.

This sanctuary holds the distinction of being the first religious structure in Spain built specifically to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its primary focus. Its location marks a geographical point where the boundaries of three different parishes converge.
