Isuntza

Isuntza is a sandy beach in Lekeitio on the Basque coast, featuring fine golden sand and calm waters close to the town center. The shore runs about 300 meters along the waterfront and forms a natural connection between the bay and the urban area.

Lekeitio was a major whaling center during the Middle Ages, with Isuntza lying at the edge of this historic harbor. Fishing remained the foundation of the town's economy and identity for centuries.

The beach sits at the heart of Lekeitio's daily life, where swimmers, families, and local residents share the same stretch of sand and water. This blend of seaside leisure and town activity gives the place its particular character.

The beach has showers, restrooms, lifeguard stations, and marked areas for water sports during summer. These facilities are located right at the shore, making it straightforward to spend time in the water and then walk into town for meals or supplies.

At low tide, a sandbar emerges that connects the beach to a nearby island, creating a natural pathway through the water. This feature appears only during specific tidal conditions and many visitors miss it entirely.
