Aubert, Mountain village in Vielha e Mijaran, Spain

Aubert is a mountain village in Vielha e Mijaran located in the Val d'Aran region, characterized by tightly grouped stone structures that follow the natural slope. The buildings are constructed from fieldstone and connected by narrow pathways that wind between the homes.

The village became part of the administrative unit Aubèrt e Betlan in 1970, when municipal consolidations reshaped the boundaries of Vielha e Mijaran. This merger was one of several changes to local governance that happened across the mountain region during that period.

The houses show how Aranese mountain people built their homes using local stone and traditional methods that suited the steep terrain. Walking through the streets reveals how these construction choices shaped the way residents lived and moved through the settlement.

The main route to the village follows the N-230 road from Vielha heading toward France, with the settlement appearing shortly after leaving the town center. Driving slowly and watching carefully helps visitors spot the small community, as it is easy to miss without paying attention to the buildings appearing along the roadside.

Unlike many mountain villages across the region that lose residents, this settlement has gained population in recent years rather than declined. This growth stands out as a sign that the community continues to appeal to both longtime inhabitants and newcomers.
