El Guixaró is an industrial settlement that runs along the Llobregat River between two neighboring colonies, with residential buildings featuring galleries and two-story designs. The structures form a continuous street lined with housing that reflects how factory workers lived in compact, planned communities.
The textile factory was built between 1888 and 1889 by Esteve Comelles i Cluet and harnessed water power from the Llobregat River for cotton spinning and weaving. This early industrial operation became one of several similar colonies that grew along the river during that era.
This settlement developed as its own community with shared spaces built for factory workers. A church, theater, library, and sports grounds show how social life centered around the workplace.
The factory buildings now house an active business operation, and two restaurants in the area offer dining options for visitors. When exploring the site, be aware that portions remain in private or industrial use and may have restricted access.
Every second Sunday in March, vintage military vehicles gather at the site, while the main local festival occurs on the first Sunday after Saint Christopher's day. These two events bring together history enthusiasts and community members in ways that keep the settlement's past visibly present.
