Coll de Comiols, Mountain saddle between Isona i Conca Dellà and Artesa de Segre, Spain
The Coll de Comiols is a mountain pass connecting Isona i Conca Dellà with Artesa de Segre at approximately 1100 meters elevation. This saddle runs through rolling terrain dotted with meadows and forests typical of the mid-elevation Pyrenean landscape.
The pass served as an important crossing point during periods when territorial boundaries between counties shaped commerce and movement. The nearby medieval settlement of Comiols indicates early habitation driven by the region's strategic requirements.
The 11th-century Romanesque church of Sant Romà maintains its original Lombard architectural style without later modifications to its structure.
The pass is accessible via the L-512 road, which is clearly visible from below and maintained at regular intervals. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions, particularly in higher months when snow and fog can occur frequently.
The former settlement of Comiols preserves remains of an old circular tower that once served to observe the plains below. These ruins are difficult to access today, but hikers can spot traces of this medieval presence from the pass itself.
