Casa Torrents

Casa Torrents is a four-story modernist residential building in Manresa with two circular towers and three facades displaying symmetrical balconies and vertical rows of windows. The ground floor contains commercial spaces and an updated lobby with an elevator, while the upper floors remain dedicated to housing.

The Torrents family, leaders in the Catalan textile industry, commissioned architect Ignasi Oms i Ponsa to build this residence in 1908. The house was created as an expression of the wealth and modern thinking of its builders during the height of Catalan modernism.

The building displays characteristic Catalan modernist elements such as neo-gothic details, a ceramic-covered dome, and ornate cornices. These features make it a tangible example of the architectural style that was widespread in Catalonia in the early 1900s.

The building is accessible for visits, though it primarily serves as a residence with businesses on the lower floor. The modern elevator system makes it easy to explore the different levels when open for tours or viewings.

The central foyer features two identical staircases leading to separate apartments, preserving entryways with original modernist decorative elements from the early 1900s. This double-staircase design reveals a clever spatial arrangement that allowed the family to operate two independent living areas simultaneously.
