Església de Santa Maria de l'Alba, Baroque church in Tàrrega, Spain.
Església de Santa Maria de l'Alba is a baroque church in Tàrrega built with a single nave and eight side chapels covered by a barrel vault. The structure is topped by an octagonal bell tower, while the three-part facade features a baroque entrance portal added in a later period.
The original building suffered a bell tower collapse in 1672, after which architect Josep de la Concepció designed a new structure. The rebuilt church was consecrated in 1696 and has shaped the city since then.
Large frescoes inside were created by local artists Jaume Minguell Miret and Josep Minguell Cardenyes, showing scenes from Holy Scripture. These wall paintings still shape the interior today and give a sense of local artistic craftsmanship from the past.
The church is accessed through the baroque main entrance located on the three-part facade. The open side chapels allow visitors to explore the full interior space without restriction.
Three carved stone heads from the 14th century, originally part of a portal at Anglesola church, were incorporated into the bell tower structure. These sculptures tell the story of older buildings and their reuse in later phases.
