Mare de Déu de les Ares, Religious sanctuary in Alt Àneu, Spain.
Mare de Déu de les Ares is a sanctuary built at 1,767 meters elevation in the Pallars Sobirà region, combining modern design with Romanesque architectural elements. The church sits near the C-28 road surrounded by mountain terrain.
The sanctuary was rebuilt in 1960 and was formerly part of the Commonwealth of Four Villages. It kept its religious purpose and continues to serve as a place of worship in the Pyrenees.
Every July 7th, people from the region gather here for religious ceremonies and celebrations rooted in local customs. This annual gathering gives the place its role as a community meeting point in the mountains.
The location is easiest to reach by car using the C-28 road, which provides access to mountain trails. Visitors should be prepared for alpine weather and changing conditions.
The sanctuary is administered by the Diocese of Urgell and registered as a Cultural Asset in Catalonia's Architectural Heritage inventory. This status protects it as a place of regional importance.
