Llosa del Cavall, Stausee in Spanien
The Llosa del Cavall reservoir sits on the Cardener River in the Solsonès region and stands over 120 meters high. Its curved concrete arch structure stores water from the river and its tributary Aigua de Valls across an area of roughly 300 hectares.
The dam was completed in 1997, marking a significant change in the area at the end of the 20th century. The project was built to store water for agriculture and was originally planned to produce electricity, though it no longer serves that purpose today.
The name Llosa del Cavall means "stone of the horse" and comes from a small area long known in the region. Today people use this quiet, wooded setting to walk and relax surrounded by nature.
The area is easy to reach via the main road between Berga and San Lorenzo de Morunys, which passes close to the dam. A road built along the water's edge allows visitors to explore the site and enjoy the wooded surroundings.
When the dam was built, an old house called Cal Vall-longa had to be moved and two historic bridges were flooded. One of these bridges was later carefully taken apart and rebuilt at a new spot further downstream.
