Portell, Medieval settlement in Sant Ramon, Spain

Portell stands at 655 meters elevation between the Sió and Llobregós rivers, featuring ancient houses and traditional farms beyond the center.

The settlement originated in the 11th century around a castle and the church of Sant Jaume, with records first mentioning Benefilio Sancil as lord in 1028.

The Festa Major takes place on August 31, celebrating Sant Ramon with religious ceremonies and dance sessions in the afternoon.

The village retains two main streets within its old nucleus, including Carrer les Voltes connecting the upper section to the lower entrance.

The birthplace of Sant Ramon Nonat in 1200 led to the construction of a dedicated chapel in 1651 at the exact location.
