Torrassa del Moro, Medieval defensive tower in Llinars del Vallès, Spain.
Torrassa del Moro is a cylindrical stone tower in Llinars del Vallès built with granite blocks that measure about 2 meters thick at the base. It rises approximately 13 meters high and displays a mix of Roman and medieval building techniques, with larger Roman stones at the bottom and smaller medieval blocks above.
The structure was originally built during Roman times and later received medieval enhancements. Smaller granite blocks were added above the lower rows of Roman masonry to strengthen its defensive purpose.
The tower earned recognition as a Cultural Asset of National Interest, showing how medieval communities defended their settlements from intruders. Today it stands as a testament to the building skills of that era.
The tower sits at approximately 416 meters elevation and is reachable via hiking trails that link to the main pathways around Llinars del Vallès. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the surrounding paths vary in difficulty.
In the 1890s, hunter Joan Teixidó transformed the ancient watchtower into a hunting pavilion by adding two floors with a kitchen and dining space. This conversion shows how historical structures took on new purposes over the centuries.
