Turó del Fanxó, Hill in Castelldefels, Spain

Turó del Fanxó is a limestone hill that rises between Castelldefels and Gavà, reaching just under 280 meters (920 feet) at its peak. Two marked trails start from Cal Ganxo: a shorter one of about 1.1 miles (1.8 km) going directly to the top, and a longer one of about 3.7 miles (6 km) continuing through fields and woods toward the nearby summit of La Morella.

In the 1500s, the hill was known as Puig Pendiu and was part of a farming landscape dotted with large estates. By the 1960s, agricultural activity in the area had stopped, and the old farmhouses gradually shifted away from their original use.

The name Fanxó comes from a local farmer named Joan Romagosa, nicknamed Fetjó, who owned a farm near the hill in the early 1800s. Walkers heading up can still spot the Masia Sant Josep, an old building that recalls the farming life once common in this area.

The climb is accessible to most visitors, but sturdy shoes and enough water are important since the path is rocky and can be dry. Clear days offer the best views from the top, with the Garraf natural area visible in the distance.

One of the hill's older names, Fetjó, means 'fate' in the local language, and this was also the nickname of the farmer whose land gave the place its current name. It is rare for a summit to carry the memory of a single family in this way.
