Kapildui, Mountain summit in Álava Province, Spain

Kapildui is a 1,180-metre summit in the Izki Nature Park in eastern Álava, the highest point of the Gasteiz mountains. It lies within the municipality of Bernedo, and trails reach the top from Izartza, Azazeta, Okina, Arluzea, Ixona and Egileta.

The paths around Kapildui have been used by shepherds for centuries as connections between villages across the Álava region. These traditional routes continue to shape the hiking network of the area today.

Local hiking communities maintain detailed records of ascents to Kapildui, contributing to a database of regional mountain climbing achievements since the early 2000s.

The hike to Kapildui follows well-marked trails that mostly wind through pasture and forest. It is wise to wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for changeable weather conditions.

In 2005 the Basque meteorological agency Euskalmet installed a weather radar on Kapildui to study the state of the atmosphere and forecast precipitation across the Basque Country. The installation stands near the 1,180-metre summit, the highest point of the Izki Nature Park.
