Monument al Doctor Robert, Modernist monument in Plaça de Tetuan, Barcelona, Spain
Monument al Doctor Robert is a modernist stone and bronze sculpture located on Plaça de Tetuan in Barcelona. The structure rises with a base featuring column-like elements and allegorical figures that represent different aspects of urban life.
The monument was originally erected in 1904 at Plaça de la Universitat as part of the city's modernist movement. After being dismantled during the Spanish Civil War, it was rebuilt in 1985 at its current location on Plaça de Tetuan.
The bronze figures show a priest, a blacksmith, and a reaper gathered around a poet holding the Catalan flag. This arrangement represents Catalan identity and its different social layers.
The monument is located near Metro Line 2 Tetuan station and is easy to reach on foot. From here, visitors can walk to other nearby attractions like Arc de Triomf and Parc de la Ciutadella.
The back section of the monument features a stone sculpture group depicting the doctor's medical contributions through a maternal figure surrounded by children. This less-noticed side reveals his practical impact on the city's life.
