Font de Santa Eulàlia, Historic fountain and monument in El Raval district, Barcelona, Spain
The Santa Eulalia fountain is a monument in the heart of El Raval featuring a marble statue of the saint rising above a pyramid-shaped base. The structure uses different types of marble and stone from Montjuïc, creating a carefully composed work of stone architecture.
Commissioned in 1670 and opened to the public in 1673, the monument reflects the city's religious importance at that time. It survived major destruction over the centuries and remains a witness to Barcelona's past.
The fountain is tied to Santa Eulàlia, a revered saint whose name is known throughout Barcelona. Visitors come here to feel this religious connection and experience a place of spiritual importance.
The monument is close to Liceu metro station and easy to find while walking through El Raval. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and get better light for viewing.
During the Civil War of 1936, the statue's head was rescued by neighbors and later moved to the History Museum. This act of preservation shows how locals protected their heritage during difficult times.
