Calella Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Calella, Spain
The Faro de Calella is a cylindrical white tower standing on the Mediterranean coastline northeast of Barcelona. It features two balconies and a glass lantern room with Fresnel lens technology for guiding vessels at sea.
Engineer Marià Parellada designed this navigation structure in 1856, originally relying on oil lamps to signal passing ships. The transition to electric lighting in 1927 modernized the beacon for improved maritime safety.
The lighthouse emits a specific pattern of three short beams followed by two large beams every thirty seconds, guiding ships across the Mediterranean Sea.
Access to the tower is available Tuesday through Sunday, with different opening times depending on the season. It is best to check the current schedule before visiting, as times vary between summer, spring, and fall periods.
From its elevated position, the tower offers views of Montnegre and Corredor Natural Park beyond the coast. This overlooks natural reserves that extend inland and create a scenic contrast between sea and mountain landscapes.
