Teatre Goya, Theatre in Barcelona, Spain

Teatre Goya is a theatre housed in the Centro Aragonés de Barcelona building at Carrer Joaquín Costa 68, in the Raval. The brick facades and ceramic decoration draw on Aragonese Mudejar Renaissance style, the work of architect Miguel Ángel Navarro Pérez. The hall, renovated in 2008 by architect Toni Barradas, seats 520 on a raked tier with side boxes.

Founded in 1914 as the events hall of the Centro Aragonés de Barcelona, the theatre opened on 15 September 1916 with La dicha ajena. It hosted the premiere of García Lorca's Mariana Pineda in 1927 with Margarita Xirgu, and Carlos Gardel sang here in November 1925. It became the Cine Goya on 7 October 1932, closed for reforms in 1939, reopened in 1947, returned to theatre in 1986, and after a 2004 closure reopened in 2008 under Grup Focus.

The theatre belongs to the Centro Aragonés de Barcelona, the Aragonese community centre that houses it on Carrer de Joaquín Costa. Its name honours the painter Francisco de Goya. Carlos Gardel sang here in November 1925, his European debut, and Margarita Xirgu premiered works by García Lorca and Azaña on this stage.

The venue has magnetic loop systems for visitors with hearing impairments and wheelchair access throughout the building. Check access routes ahead since the location sits in the narrow old quarter.

The theatre occupies the headquarters of the Centro Aragonés de Barcelona, whose brick façades and ceramic decoration draw on Aragonese Mudéjar Renaissance style; the building earned a mention in Barcelona City Council's 1917 annual artistic buildings competition. Carlos Gardel sang here in November 1925, his European debut.
