Santa Maria de Solius, Cistercian monastery and church in Solius, Spain
Santa Maria de Solius is a Cistercian monastery with a single-nave church featuring three chapels on each side of the interior. An octagonal bell tower with a dome crowns the complex.
The monastery was founded in 1967 by four monks from Poblet Monastery, established beside a parish church dating from 1773. That earlier church remains an important landmark for the site.
The monastery houses a collection of 44 handcrafted Nativity dioramas created by Fray Gilbert Galceran over many years. These miniature scenes display religious craftsmanship in remarkable detail.
The site operates a bookbinding workshop and displays its Nativity collections primarily during the Christmas season. Calling ahead to confirm a visit is recommended before making the trip.
The monks divide their time between liturgical duties, agricultural work, and skilled bookbinding projects that supply local demand. This blend of spiritual practice and practical craftsmanship shapes daily life at the site.
