La Morera

La Morera is an Art Nouveau mansion in Manresa built on a large rural estate that combines traditional Catalan building methods with modern design of its time. The structure consists of two L-shaped sections and provides extensive rooms for living, entertaining, and daily activities within its substantial grounds.

The house was designed between 1903 and 1905 by architect Ignasi Oms i Ponsa for textile industrialist Josep Portabella i Cots. It was built during an era when wealthy factory owners began building grand country estates away from the city.

The property reflects how wealthy Catalan families built their homes in the early 20th century, with carefully kept wine cellars and original stone vaults showing this lifestyle. These features reveal a blend of farming roots and industrial prosperity that shaped local architecture.

The estate sits on open land with easy access from Manresa and offers plenty of space to walk through and explore the outdoor areas. The layout makes it convenient to move between different parts of the house and gardens, with the L-shaped design creating multiple pathways across the grounds.

A section of the house was built later than the original part and features a notable gallery with iron railings that opens to views of Montserrat mountain. This later addition shows how the family's needs and desires changed over time.
