Gipuzkoako Foru Aldundia-Diputación Foral de Guipúzcoa palace

The Gipuzkoako Foru Aldundia is a provincial government palace in San Sebastián featuring Second Empire architecture with rounded arches and triangular pediments. Inside, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and ceremonial spaces occupy multiple floors with decorative window frames and ornamental details.

Architect Jose Goikoa designed the building in 1890, initially serving both state and provincial administration functions. It later became the exclusive headquarters of Gipuzkoa's provincial government.

The building displays busts of regional maritime explorers and navigators in its decoration. These figures reflect the seafaring traditions that shaped the province's past.

The palace stands at Plaza de Gipuzkoa in the city center and is easy to locate. Keep in mind that access to certain areas may be restricted since it functions as an active administrative headquarters.

Inside, a monumental marble staircase leads to a stained glass window depicting King Alfonso VII swearing an oath to regional laws. This ornate window links the building's architectural grandeur with an important local legal tradition.
