Platja de les Madrigueres, Urban beach in El Vendrell, Spain.
Platja de les Madrigueres is an urban beach stretching 1650 meters along the Mediterranean with soft sand and calm water for swimming. The 52-meter-wide shore has a gentle slope that suits different kinds of visitors and water activities.
The area was the original course of Riera de la Bisbal until the 1950s, when works redirected the river southward through new channels. This reshaping of the coastline made room for the beach as it exists today.
The beach serves as a gathering place for locals during warmer months, where everyday seaside routines shape community life. The waterfront has long been woven into how people in town spend their leisure time.
Wooden and concrete walkways provide easy access for people with different mobility needs. During summer months, lifeguards are on duty to ensure safe swimming conditions.
The adjacent wetlands support rare seabirds like the Kentish plover that most visitors do not notice. What makes this surprising is that patches of Neptune grass, typically found in deeper waters, remain preserved here near the shore.
