Centre Penitenciari Brians 2, prison in Catalonia
Centre Penitenciari Brians 2 is a prison in Sant Esteve Sesrovires in Catalonia, Spain, opened in 2007 and designed to hold around 2,000 inmates. The facility consists of 14 residential blocks arranged in a radial pattern, with three floors each, along with workshops, classrooms, medical units, and dedicated visitor rooms for family and legal meetings.
The prison opened in 2007 as the third facility built by the Catalan government since 1984, following Quatre Camins and Brians 1. Planning and construction began in 2004, creating a modern rehabilitation facility adapted to the natural landscape of the region.
The site is located in a quiet rural area north of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, making it relatively remote from urban centers. Access is controlled by strict security procedures, and visitors should check in advance for specific rules and visiting hours.
The complex was deliberately planned to preserve the historic farm building Can Margarit nearby and minimize visual impact on the surrounding landscape. The prison integrates subtly into the terrain rather than dominating it, an unusual consideration in prison design.
