Castillo de Fantova, Medieval fortress in Graus, Spain
The Castillo de Fantova stands on a rocky promontory with a circular tower measuring eighteen meters in height and walls two meters thick.
The castle's documented history begins in 960 when the Bishop of Roda consecrated the Church of Santa Cecilia within the castle grounds.
The fortress incorporates elements of Romanesque architecture, including the Santa Cecilia church with its single nave, semicircular apse, and cylindrical bell tower.
Access to the circular tower requires climbing wooden stairs to reach an entrance situated eight meters above ground level.
An astronomical observatory occupies the top of the tower, which provides views across the Méngualas valley and surrounding abandoned villages.
