Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra

The Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra stands atop a hill, featuring defensive towers, a clock tower, and the Major Tower offering views across the Ebro Valley.

Built in the 10th century as a Navarrese fortress, the castle formed a defensive line with Davalillo castle to protect the territory from external threats.

The castle grounds connect to the parish church of Santa María la Mayor, which received National Monument status in 1933 for its Gothic architectural elements.

Visitors can follow a one-kilometer route through medieval streets to reach the castle, passing by emblazoned houses and 18th-century palaces along the way.

Archaeological excavations beneath the castle walls revealed a stone winepress and cellar, indicating medieval wine production methods in this fortified structure.
